The Premier Science Program is a course-specified curriculum that includes grade-level specific content in the field of science for kindergarten through high school levels. The program reinforces an understanding in Biology/Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science as well as Chemistry and Physics. These subjects are specifically designed to accommodate appropriate materials and instruction to help strengthen science skills emphasizing the California Science Education Standards. This program will also serve as an introductory course to more specified courses in their later years of education. This program is created to help prepare for eventual college majors that include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Pre-Med, or other science related course majors.
Introductory Science
At elementary levels, science is taught to students like that of a preface to a book. At these standards, multiple sciences are introduced to them. Main skills learned in the class are focused on observation, experimentation, and investigation. The following are areas of focus that will be introduced in the following course:
· Physical Sciences
· Life Sciences
· Earth Sciences
· Investigation and Experimentation
Intermediate Science
Intermediate science scopes in and focuses on the depths of Earth Science, Physical Science, and Life Science. Biology and Chemistry is also introduced in the course to gear students ready for high school sciences. Lab experience and investigation are highlighted to prepare students for challenging lab experiences in future honors and AP/IB classes. The follow is an outline of the topics covered in the course, along with major emphasis on lab procedure:
Chemistry
· Motion
· Forces
· Structure of Matter
· Earth in the Solar System (Earth Sciences)
· Chemical Reactions
· Periodic Table
Biology · Cell Biology
· Genetics
· Evolution
· Earth and Life History (Earth Sciences)
· Structure and Function in Living Systems
Earth Science
· Plate Tectonics and Earth's Structure
· Shaping Earth's Surface
· Heat (Thermal Energy) (Physical Sciences)
· Energy in the Earth System
· Ecology (Life Sciences)
