Being able to express oneself clearly in writing is crucial. For this reason, the Premier Academy Writing Workshop focuses on guiding students through the five stages of the writing process as they engage in various forms of writing such as narrative, descriptive, persuasive, etc. The goal is for students to understand how this process plays an essential part to any type of writing.
Prewriting
· Brainstorming
· Using graphic organizers and clusters to organize ideas
· Skimming over pre-writing work and trimming unnecessary content
· Forming the framework of the writing project
Writing a Rough Draft
· Following the organizational framework of the pre-writing organizer
· Writing spontaneously or creatively
Revising
· Looking at the “big picture”
· Asking questions: Is there a topic sentence? Are there supporting details? Are paragraphs arranged logically? Are there redundancies?
· Pulling out the thesaurus and dictionary
Editing
· Peer-editing
· Repeated reading
· Correcting spelling and punctuation errors
· Deciding what to omit and what to add
· Following the rubric
Publication / Presentation
· Presenting a polished work
· Sharing and enjoying each other’s work
